About us

Bridging the gap between applications and advanced processor technologies

Xelera Technologies is a software provider for high-speed network technology and machine learning applications. We solve data rate and response time bottlenecks in software applications and systems with a performance-optimized software stack. Our product also increases the energy efficiency of data center and cloud servers.

Our customers are system providers for data center and cloud infrastructure, telecom networks, financial services and life sciences. We serve a global customer base. Our software is deployed in Europe, the Americas and Asia. We work closely with major chip vendors.

Our Story

Xelera Net is a SmartNIC software which accelerates the IPsec network security function and eliminates the performance bottlenecks of servers performing security tasks on 100GbE networks: Xelera Net offloads IPsec to SmartNICs and delivers a 2x100Gbps IPsec bandwidth. It provides a turn-key SmartNIC solution.

In addition to the Inline Accelerator, Xelera Net includes a software-based IPsec accelerator which scales the workload across CPU cores and does not require additional accelerator hardware.

History of Xelera

2017

Xelera starts its story as EXIST-funded project “F-Technlogies” at the Embedded Systems & Applications Group at the Technical University of Darmstadt to enter the hardware-accelerated datacenter market.

The four founders Felix Winterstein, Andreas Duffner, Andrea Suardi and Alexander Lange receive EXIST Research Transfer funding to launch their start-up project under the working title “F-Technologies”. They are hosted by Professor Andreas Koch of the Embedded Systems & Applications Group at the Technical University of Darmstadt. During the one-year long project the team grows their initial idea of entering the hardware-accelerated datacenter market into a minimum viable product. They enter relations with the two largest FPGA-vendors Intel and Xilinx and develop first accelerated machine learning algorithms on their platforms.

2019

Xelera collaborates with Edge Gravity to develop a global edge computing cloud, creates a hardware-accelerated speaker diarization as showcase and is awarded “Digital Start-up of the Year”. Xelera grows to eight full-time employees and engages in a multi-phase project with Ericsson's internal startup Edge Gravity to support developing a global edge computing cloud. As first proof-of-concept Xelera creates a hardware-accelerated speaker diarization allowing different speakers to being distinguished in real-time that is getting presented at XDFs in San José and The Hague, SuperComputing Denver and Embedded World Nürnberg. Xelera is awarded “Digital Start-up of the Year” in Berlin by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

2020

Xilinx becomes a strategic investor and Xelera, now eleven full-time employees strong, supports Deutsche Telekom to develop a cloud gaming solution. The American semiconductor company Xilinx becomes Xelera’s first strategic investor. The partnership is fostered by Xilinx FPGAs becoming the lead platform for Xelera’s hardware acceleration. With now eleven full-time employees Xelera engages with Deutsche Telekom to support their cloud gaming efforts. A hardware accelerated video stream processing solution should minimize the latency between cloud and end-user to create the perfect gaming experience.

2021

Xelera is ranked among the “Top 5 Edge Computing Startups” by Startus Insights and launches and sells their three new products Xelera Secra, Xelera Silva and Xelera Net. Xelera is ranked among the “Top 5 Edge Computing Startups” by Startus Insights and launches and sells three new products: Xelera Secra: A hardware-accelerated cryptographic compute cluster primarily used for hash cracking, delivered to a German government organization. Xelera Silva: An ultra-low-latency machine learning accelerator mainly used by day trading companies finds its first customer. Xelera Net: A high-bandwidth IPsec SmartNIC has its first PoC with the Swiss company Open Systems.

2022

Xelera joins the O-RAN Alliance and the 5G-OPERA project to enter the private 5G market with their hardware acceleration solutions. Xelera joins the emerging private 5G market with the goal of embedding their hardware acceleration. As part of the 5G-OPERA project Xelera is introduced to the European private 5G ecosystem and starts their development. Xelera joins the O-RAN Alliance and participates in shaping the Open RAN architecture of the future. Co-Founder Andreas Duffner retires and is replaced by Stefan Seitz as shareholder.

2023

Xelera secures funding from the European Innovation Council to develop their 5G Open RAN product Xelera DYRA and starts selling recurring licenses for Xelera Silva globally. Xelera secures funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) for their 5G efforts. The goal is to develop a hardware-accelerated distributed unit, a core part of a 5G Open RAN system which is responsible for the majority of processing, and to integrate it into the private 5G ecosystem. The first iteration of this product launches as Xelera DYRA within a year. Xelera Silva gets its first long-term customers, selling recurring licenses that are used in stock markets all around the globe.

2024

Xelera Net is used in three projects with the French computer security company Stormshield, IABG’s National Secure Cloud and Airbus' Multi-Domain Combat Cloud. Xelera’s SmartNIC product Xelera Net is being used in multiple high-profile projects. The French computer security company Stormshield is trialing Xelera Net in their appliances, IABG integrates it into their National Secure Cloud (NSC), and a proof-of-concept is launched to utilize it in Airbus' Multi-Domain Combat Cloud (MDCC). The high-bandwidth SmartNIC convinces with flexibility, performance, efficiency and seamless integration.

2025
